Hospital dentistry is, well, dentistry performed in a hospital setting. Typically this involves administering dental care to patients in a hospital operating room or administering care in the hospital Emergency Department.
When being treated in hospital operating room patients are typically placed under general anesthesia, as they would be for any surgery. Their anesthesia is managed by an anesthesiologist while the dentistry and/or oral surgery is completed by the dentist.
This treatment modality is particular useful for young children requiring full mouth rehabilitation, the developmentally delayed, and adult patients requiring extensive oral rehabilitation (bone grafting and dental implants).
To provide care in a hospital setting a provider must be part of the general medical staff of a hospital. To qualify for a hospital appointment requires accredited postgraduate residency training following the completion of dental school.
Dr Haghighi holds medical staff appointments (credentials) at St John Medical Center in Longview, Washington. Additionally Dr. Haghighi holds operating privileges at the Pacific Surgical Institute (PSI) located in Longview, Washington.
Both facilities have fully functional dental suite capabilities. The majority of our adult rehabilitative dental implant cases are completed at the PSI.
Dr Haghighi has completed several hundred cases under general anesthetic. Treating patients in a hospital setting is second nature in our practice. It is a valuable treatment modality and one we are proud to offer.
